Culture change in long-term care is a growing trend to "rethink" the way nursing homes are organized and run. Across the country, more and more long-term care providers are recognizing that changing the way things have been done is not only a smart business move, but also a way to increase opportunities for people living in nursing homes to thrive.

As the state agency that licenses and regulates Texas' nearly 1,200 nursing facilities, DADS has championed changing the culture of nursing homes from what's often been an institutional approach to one that's more focused on the person.texas nursing homes

DADS (Texas Department of Aging and Disability) recently introduced a new phase in its culture change initiative that will bring attention to the benefits of person-directed care, also called person-centered care. As part of ongoing assistance for nursing home providers, DADS hosted a culture change symposium in August that brought together facility staff, administrators, surveyors and long-term care ombudsmen to learn, share and network about the culture change movement.
