Hearing Aids Products and Services. One of our goals at Hearing Research Institute, Inc. is to provide the highest level of technology at the best possible price. Always compare the technology that is being offered when you are comparing prices. Just because a hearing aid is "digital" does not mean it is full featured.

We recognized that everyone has a budget. Rather than comparing hearing aids on the basis of price, I recommend you stay within your budget and compare the different hearing aids based on the level of technology you can get for your money. It will require some education and effort on your part but the rewards will far exceed the effort.

We encourage you to make an appointment for your own personal seminar at Hearing Research Institute, Inc. Your session will last 2 hours. Included in the session will be a complete suite of audiometric tests followed by an interactive educational discussion.

If you have hearing aids, and likely you do, we will treat you to an eye opening review of their performance and benefit features. The odds are high that you will want to have them reprogrammed to better fit your loss. Not only will you learn about the technology, you will also learn what to expect from an advanced fitter.

How to Choose a Hearing Aid ...img3.gif

Choosing a personalized hearing aid for a particular loss is almost impossible for most of you. The technology has become so complex that even the specialists are confused and bewildered. There is an article entitled "Redefining the Hearing Aid Selection Process" by Mark Ross, Ph.D. which first appeared in Hearing Loss (March/April 2002).

The article is directed towards fitting professionals, primarily audiologists. It confirms what we have come to understand about the changes taking place in the industry. The manufacturers and their engineers are all using the computer to create fantastic new solutions for the hearing impaired.

However, each manufacturer has its own idea about what parameters will work best. The dispensers are relying on the manufacturers sales talks to "pick" a particular hearing aid. The dispensers themselves have no reliable third party studies to help sort through the hundreds of different choices. Most audiologists are stuck with the trial-and-error method. Their patients are guinea pigs and if they try a few hearing aids of one type and it doesn't work well, they choose another. After trying a number of aids on a number of patients, they fall back to using whatever seems to work best.

We do it differently at Hearing Research Institute, Inc. When a manufacturer introduces a new hearing aid, we are able to do a complete analysis of the features and functions of the hearing aid before we ever fit them on a patient. We can see the sound.

Using a spectrum analyzer and some specially written software, we can take the hearing aid through its paces and know in advance what the hearing aid is capable of. There is no other way short of trial and error to learn about a particular hearing aid. You can't phone a friend. You can't poll your church group. What works perfectly well for one hearing loss has no bearing on your loss. You would not try your friend's eyeglasses on in order to see if glasses would work for you. You cannot assess the performance of a hearing aid simply by hearing or reading a story about them. Not all hearing aids are equal and you need to find the one works for you.
