Why choose a prescription discount card?

circle01_black.gif  The number of people without health insurance was 46.6 million (nearly 16% of the total population) in 2005, compared to 45.3 million in 2004, and 41.2 million in 2001.
circle01_black.gif  The percentage of Americans who are uninsured rose largely because the percentage of people with employer-sponsored coverage continued to decline, as it has in the past several years.
circle01_black.gif  The percentage of children under 18 who are uninsured rose from 10.8% in 2004 to 11.2% in 2005, while the number of uninsured children climbed from 7.9 million in 2004 to 8.3 million in 2005, an increase of 360,000.
circle01_black.gif  Currently, approximately 13% of US health care spending goes to pay for pharmaceuticals, though 25% of out-of-pocket spending by individuals is for prescription drugs.*

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long will it take to receive my order, and how is it delivered?

Everything is delivered to your door. It takes approximately 5-7 days to process your initial order. Refills are shipped faster. The amount of time in transit depends entirely on the postal services handling the deliveries. While we can estimate 1-9 business days for delivery inside the United States, we cannot give a guarantee to that effect.

Q. Can you transfer my prescription from my local pharmacy to the mail order pharmacy?

No! Government regulations do not allow transfers from U.S. pharmacies to a mail order service. You must obtain a new prescription from your doctor and send it to us along with the prescription order form.

Q. What do you do with my personal information?

All personal information is only reviewed by pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, or doctors affiliated with the pharmacy for the purpose of completing your order. All information and communication between a pharmacist and patient are kept confidential. Do not call RxBenefitCard for any personal medical issues.

Q. How can I check the status of my order?

Each RxBenefitCard member will receive their own online login code and purchase order number for their mail order purchases. They will allow them to check the personal progress of their order, or you can contact RxBenefitCard at 1-800-658-2618.

Q. What are generic drugs and are they safe?

A generic drug is identical or bioequivalent, to a brand name drug in dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality, performance characteristics and intended use. Although generic drugs are chemically identical to their branded counterparts, they are typically sold at substantial discounts from the branded price. United States and Canadian generics are just as safe and effective as name brand medications. All drugs are very closely monitored by both governments, which ensures their safety and quality.

Q. Why are generic drugs cheaper?

Generics are less expensive because of the patent system. When they are first introduced, most new drugs are patent- protected by the government for 17 years. When the initial patent runs out, other drug manufacturers can apply to the FDA to sell generic versions of the drug. These companies can often sell the drug for 50 percent to 80 percent less than the cost of the brand name.

Q. Are the drugs available through your mail order, the same quality as the drugs that I buy now?

Yes! There is no difference in quality between U.S., Canadian, and European medications. These governments all have very similar requirements, enforce stringent oversight, and maintain high standards coupled with a rigorous approval system for the manufacturing of medication. The drugs sold outside the U.S. are precisely the same as those sold in the U.S. and although the drugs may appear physically different, their therapeutic effects are identical.

Q. Is mail-order prescription service safe?

We have both a U.S. and Canadian mail order service available. The GAO (General Accounting Office), a department of the U.S. Federal Government released a report in July 2004, which acknowledges the safety of the Canadian drug supply chain and noted that in some cases, the Canadian system was more effective in comparison to the U.S. system. This report is available online for anyone that would like to read it in its entirety.
